PILLE Physiotherapy I Musculoskeletal and Pelvic Clinic

In general, it can be said that preparation for pregnancy is multi-faceted, including, in addition to physical preparation, cleaning the environment where you live, avoiding the use of toxic cosmetics, healthy nutrition, adequate and high-quality fluid intake, and supplementing vitamins and minerals.

The evaluation of the necessity and the recommended start of physiotherapy preparation for pregnancy depends on the competence of the physiotherapist. In my professional opinion, it is recommended for all women to take part in a physical examination before pregnancy, which examines the condition of the musculoskeletal system and pelvis, as well as lifestyle counseling and education. Prevention is easier than cure.

What does a condition assessment/consultation by me include?

  • detailed questioning about previous and current forms of exercise, lifestyle, nature of work, chronic diseases, past and current musculoskeletal complaints (injuries, surgeries, pain), pelvic problems (dribbling of urine, urge to urinate, pelvic inflammation, sexual pain, metabolic problems, complaints during sports), taking a family medical history
  • interpretation of existing medical findings
  • examination of posture in underwear, inspection of the entire body from head to toe
  • examination of the spine and larger joint movements, examination of the complaining muscles by muscle strength, muscle tone and special tests
  • examination of the state of the pelvis
  • description of importance of the pelvic floor muscles (PFM) training
  • the role of healthy foot arches during and after pregnancy
  • the importance of the strength of the trunk muscles (abdominal and back muscles) and
  • the mobility of the spine, which can reduce lumbar, back and neck pain during pregnancy
